The Tupolev Tu-160 is a Soviet high altitude, variable sweep-wing, supersonic strategic bomber originally built to deliver nuclear strikes during the Cold War. It is capable of carrying 6 Kh-55 cruise missiles or 40,000 kg of conventional explosives. An improved and upgraded version of the Tu-160, the Tu-160M2, is due for introduction in 2018.
